PhD Summer School on Finance and Product Markets

Institute of Finance

During July 24-28, Prof. Laurent Frésard (USI & SFI) and Prof. Gordon Phillips (Dartmouth) collaborated to host a PhD Summer School on Finance and Product Markets in the picturesque southern Swiss town of Lugano.

The course attracted 50 participants, including faculty, postdocs, and PhD students from Europe, the US, and Asia, who dedicated themselves to a one-week, full-time intensive research program focused on exploring the intersection between finance and product markets.

The course introduce participants to the growing research area focusing on the intersection(s) between finance and industrial organization. The lectures covered the multifaceted interactions between firms’ (real and financial) decisions and their product market environments.

Mini-seminars are also hosted for 10 attendees to present and discuss their latest product market research.

Beyond the classroom, the event fostered social interactions, with gatherings such as drinks by the beautiful Lake Lugano and four intimate group dinners, allowing each student to interact closely with professors and peers.

Special recognition goes to IFIN PhD student Yuhan Ye, who conducted two Python text analysis exercise sessions and efficiently organized all the social events throughout the course.
