Patrick Gagliardini appointed Pro-Rector for Research

As from now, Prof. Patrick Gagliardini will work alongside the other members of the Rectorate in the overall management of the University. In his new role at USI he will carry on his commitment in promoting scientific research in terms of quality, volume and visibility, encouraging conditions to achieve excellence and paying attention to the careers of researchers. At the same time, Pro-Rector Michele Lanza ends his term in the Rectorate: the University thanks him for his commitment over the past two years in the fields of promotion, web, and information development.
Patrick Gagliardini (1974) is full professor of Econometrics at USI. In 1998 he graduated in Physics at the Polytechnical School in Zurich (ETHZ). In 2003 he earned a PhD from the Faculty of Economics of USI with his thesis in Econometrics on the modelling of nonlinear dynamics. He then spent a year in Paris as visiting fellow at the Laboratoire de Finance-Assurance of CREST (Paris) with a SNSF research grant. Between 2004 and 2006 he held an assistant professor position at the Faculty of Economics of University of St. Gallen, and between 2008 and 2012 he served as Junior Chair of the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI). He also served as Dean of USI Faculty of Economics from September 2015 until August 2019. His research interests focus on econometrics and especially financial econometrics, and the results of his research have been published in the main scientific journals in the field. Since 2017 he has been a Fellow of the Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFiE).
The Rectorate is one of USI’s central bodies together with the University Council and the Academic Senate. It ensures the overall smooth functioning of the University and elaborates planning and development acts. USI Rectorate comprises of the Rector, the Pro-Rectors, the Administrative Director, and the Secretary General. Its functions are stated in the Statute of the Università della Svizzera italiana (in Italian).
Current members of the Rectorate are Boas Erez (Rector of USI), Lorenzo Cantoni (Pro-Rector for Education and Students' Experience), Patrick Gagliardini (Pro-Rector for Research), Daniela Mondini (Pro-Rector for Research in the Humanities and Equal Opportunities), Cristina Largader (Administrative Director), and Giovanni Zavaritt (Secretary General). Rector's Delegate for Research Analysis Benedetto Lepori, and Adjunct Administrative Director Antoine Turner also take part in the Rectorate meetings.
